Human Trafficking refers to the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring of any person and therefore is a violation of human rights (as stated by Article 3, paragraph (a) of the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children). It involved the use of force, fraid or cercion to somehow obtain some type of performed labour or sexual act. This is otherwise known as modern day slavery. They are horribly abused, used for profit or commercial sex and are manipulated into working under inhumane, illegal or otherwise unacceptable situations that are terribly difficult to be, let alone work under. Millions of men and women all around the world, including the United States, are trafficked. It is estimated that human trafficking actually generates billions of dollars of profit per year. It is considered a hidden crime as victims come forward or seek for help because of language barriers or fear (both of traffickers or law enforcement). The trauma that traffickers leave behind is so immense that it causes those who are affected to not ask for help because they are feeling scared. Really, anyone is capable of being trafficked. Traffickers especially tarfet those who are susceptible in both psychological and emotional aspects. This also includes signs of economic hardship, lack of a social safety net, natural disasters or political instability. Polaris, a leader in the global fight to eradicate modern slavery, analysed more than 32,000 cases of human trafficking that were documented between December 2007 and December 2017 through their operation of the National Human Trafficking Hotline and BeFree Textline (which can also be concluded as the largest data set on human trafficking ever compiled and publicly analysed).
